Frequently Asked Questions

General
1. What are the responsibilities of a contest coordinator?

The contest coordinator, or a teacher-in-charge, is to oversee the coordination and administration of the contest for the school. This includes (but is not limited to):

  1. Ordering contest templates (contact us to place your orders)
  2. Registering the school, teams and entries online for the contest
  3. Collecting and submitting all entries from the school in one batch, together with the printed online registration form, to Menara Star, PJ
  4. Nominating and labelling three of the best entries to move on to the next stage of the contest (this is to be done before submitting the entries)
  5. Checking the Redemption Table page for the items your school will be receiving for participating in the contest, and notifying the Organiser of discrepancies
  6. Receiving and distributing the redemption items to the participating teachers and students
2. How many contest coordinators can each school have?

Each school can only have ONE contest coordinator.

3. What is the role of a supervising teacher?

The role of a supervising teacher is to guide and supervise a team of four students so that a good entry is produced. If a team wins a prize at the national level, the supervising teacher wins the prize, too. Hence, it is very advantageous for a teacher to be listed as the supervising teacher for the team. It is important that you list the supervising teacher’s name in full, and that the name listed on the entry form corresponds with the name registered online, so that no confusion or dispute arises.

You may key in whatever information you have for the time being. Online registration is open from April 11 until July 4. You can log in to add, amend and delete teams and entries as many times as needed before the online registration closes on July 4. Once students have returned from their term holiday and have submitted their entries, you will have the exact figures for the number of entries submitted. You can then update all information, add new teams or delete teams who have dropped out during this period. Contest coordinators MUST NOT pencil in any information – all information must be keyed in online. The onus is on the teacher to provide accurate information. Incorrect information will result in discrepancies in the redemption items that the school will be receiving. The Organiser will not be held accountable for such errors.

Team structure and contest mechanics (for students)
1. How many members must each team have?

Each team must have four members (students), no more and no less, and must be supervised by a teacher.

2. There are only three (or less) students in my team. Can we still take part in the contest?

No. All teams must have four, and only four, students in a team. If there are fewer than four students in a team, the entry submitted by the team will automatically be disqualified, and will no longer stand a chance of winning the prizes.

3. There are five (or more) of us in a team. Can we still take part in the contest?

Only four students’ names may be listed in the entry form. As such, the four names that are listed will be deemed as the members of the team. Any additional members whose names have been listed on the entry will automatically be disqualified and will not be eligible to compete in the contest.

4. Can a team be made up of students from different schools?

No. All students in a team must be from the same school.

5. I am already a member of a team. Can I still join or form another team?

No. Each participating student can only be a member of ONE team. If a student is found to be a member of more than one team, both teams may be disqualified.

6. My team does not have a supervising teacher. What can we do?

If your team is still unable to find a supervising teacher, you may ask your contest coordinator if he may supervise your team. The role of a supervising teacher is to guide and supervise the team so that a good entry is produced.

7. None of the teachers in my school wants to be a contest coordinator. Can a student or a parent, or a teacher from another school, take on the role of a contest coordinator for my school?

No. Only a teacher in your school can be the contest coordinator for your school. While students may volunteer to coordinate the contest for the school and see to the administrative aspects of the contest, a teacher must still be registered as the contest coordinator and act as a liaison on behalf of the school. As all forms of questions and communication (via e-mail, phone and/or postal service) will be directed to the teacher, it is important for the teacher to be aware of and agreeable to such arrangements. Regardless of the arrangement, the contest coordinator prize will still be given to the teacher whose name is registered as the contest coordinator.

8. Are we allowed to change the members or supervising teacher for our team?

Once your entries have been submitted to the Organiser, no change to the members and supervising teacher of your team is allowed. The names listed on the entry will be deemed as the original members of the team.
