In 2009 a highly regarded team of scientists confirms to the world's heads of state that the Earth as we know it will soon come to an end.

By 2012, a plan has been devised by world leaders to save as much of mankind as possible, but unfortunately not everyone can be saved.

When Jackson Curtis (Cusack) and his two kids go on a family trip to Yellowstone, they stumble upon a massive research facility in a dried-up lake bed and uncover the secret of the impending apocalypse the US Government has been hiding.

Jackson must take matters into his own hands as he embarks on a desperate race to save both his family and himself while witnessing earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and numerous other natural disasters the Earth has in store for humanity.
